Explore and use our community-based monitoring tools

The Indigenous Navigator offers a series of tools and resources for indigenous communities to monitor their rights.

Indigenous communities can use data to calculate and illustrate the levels of recognition and realization of their rights on the ground. Community data is a strong advocacy tool to advance local demands.

Some users will need only the questionnaires to generate data on indigenous peoples' human rights and development situation. Others will benefit from the broader range of tools and resources that offer extensive guidance that can be applied to a multitude of different areas of work.

All tools and resources are interlinked and are designed to serve multiple purposes. They can all be downloaded and printed out for use at trainings and in the field.

This infographic shows you an overview of the monitoring framework and key tools:

The Indigenous Navigator Community Index and the Indigenous Navigator National Index are tools that serve to rank countries’ performance with regard to recognizing and implementing indigenous peoples’ rights.

  • SDG illustration combined with Navigator

The Indigenous Navigator comprises a series of tools for monitoring indigenous peoples’ rights and development. One of these tools is a set of indicators, which serve to pinpoint what to look for when measuring whether the provisions of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) are implemented in a given country or indigenous community.

The Indigenous Navigator offers user-friendly questionnaires, especially developed and designed to assess the realisation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
